Schools Pro 20 - Finals
Saturday 20 February, saw the thrilling climax to the schools Pro 20 Cricket, when Hoerskool Waterkloof beat Noord Kaap in a super over, after the two teams tied in a final at the Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch. The final showdown was a culmination of five months of intense cricket, which saw some 600 schools whittled down to the final two.
Sound Stylists supplied the technical equipment for this epic final, a challenging task due to the strong winds in the Coetzenburg Stadium.
The stage sets comprised of 4 separate dance platforms as well as one main DJ structure; the main source of the stadium’s entertainment. Built within a simple truss structure, the main stage was flanked by 2 LED 4x4 screens. Feed to these screens was made up of various camera shots, dunk tank highlights, live DJ action as well as programme feed from MNET which allowed for slow motion replays. Hippotizer, was the media server of choice, once again proving how simple and effective it is to operate.
The sound system was hung on two J-towers at a height of 10m; this comprised of 7 Nexo GEOS 1210 line-array tops with one GEOS 1230 down fill per side. 4 NEXO S2 bass bins (4 per side) were used to enhance the atmospheric sounds. These were powered by NEXO NX 4x4 amplifiers. Camco V6 amplifiers with NX 242 controllers were used to power the PA. We chose to use the Yamaha LS9 16 to engineer the FOH mix, utilising the console’s onboard processing and effects. In addition, we used SMAART version 7 to set the delays and EQ for the PA. SMAART is a software solution used for realtime sound system measurement, analysis and optimization, an extremely handy tool in environments where there is excessive ambient noise.
The lighting was made up of 24 Powerbank LED’s for the event. 8 Were used to light up the dance floors, 4 lighting up the dunk tank, 6 on the DJ structure (lighting up the scoreboard), and 6 on the main dance floor. The LED’s were the perfect solution for creating eye catching effects in broad daylight. The event was a massive success, and thoroughly enjoy by everyone involved.
